"WALK AT FONTE DELLA NOCE"
So we decided to go for a nice walk at Fonte della Noce, a plateau that sits at 1,000mt a.s.l. facing the majestic Mountains of the Majella Eastern National Park. We couldn't pick a better day for a walk, sunny but not too hot, not many people around, the amazing woodland of 30mt plus high Holm Oak and Black Poplar trees, and the cool, fresh pure air for us to enjoy. A beautiful dog decided to keep us company all the way and back, and was safely reunited with his owner of the local bar restaurant known as Rifugio Fonte della Noce. We set off gently along the wide grassed area to then cross the little stream, that springs out the mountain. Already we could spot a wide variety of wiild flowers including orchids with beautiful bright colours, and hidden up high the trees lots of birds singing happily. We walked along the footpath leading us deeper into the woodland, presenting us with slightly more demanding uphill climbs, that required a bit more attention. Everytime we stopped for a sip of fresh water from the spring, the scenery and the landscape looked more and more like those out of a movie scene, picture perfect. But nothing prepared us from the spectacle we were presented at the end, when after the final short steepish climb, we came out of the trees. Breath taking 360 stunning and far reaching views opened up all around us. From the town of Bomba and beyond, the Majella Mountains, Palena, and the 3 Pizzi, the beautiful woodland we just walked through, the luscious rolling green hills... Everything left us lost for words.....
After our walk we went to nearby Palena and enjoyed a well deserved, simple and delicious, pizza feast with the biggest glass of vino we have ever been served in a bar in Italy , it was HUGE!
