A small and perfect Abruzzo wedding

29 Settembre 2025

How many times have you thought about having a wedding or celebration abroad and then decided it was too much of a tricky task to organise? Well, here is a reason that might just make you change your mind…

This is a love story to melt your heart and a dream that turned into reality.

A lovely Polish couple, Jerzy and Hanna, asked us if it was possible to organise their wedding in the tiny hilltop town where they have a holiday home in Abruzzo. They wanted an intimate wedding with a handful of relatives and friends present and a blessing after the ceremony in the little chapel opposite their holiday home.

We organised and helped them with the paperwork requested by the local council for the main service which was to take place in the council building in the picturesque town, and we acted as translator, Italian to English, for the service. The service was perfect with lots of laughter and happy tears, and the mayor who took the ceremony was delighted to see everyone so joyous. We arranged with the local priest to open up the little chapel afterwards to give the couple a blessing, something the handful of locals were absolutely delighted to witness in this teeny tiny hamlet, where nothing usually happens except for a passing tractor. The chapel these days is normally opened just once a year when the Priest comes to bless the village for the following year so this was a major event for them all!

A local restaurant was booked for a long and lazy lunch after the service and a wedding cake was baked. It was June and cherries were in season so the cake was filled with fresh juicy cherries, mascarpone cream and the local ratafia cherry liqueur. Seasonal and delicious flavours and a perfect way to end their special day.

The family and friends were staying for a few days after the ceremony and they had asked us to arrange a minibus and driver and an itinerary of lovely things to do locally for the upcoming days after the ceremony. Suggestions were made and they decided a visit to an organic winery for a tasting would be perfect. Once there they were very happy to discover that the brother of the owner was a truffle hunter. He had popped in with a bag full of his freshly dug treasures, and so it was that they left laden with bottles of organic wine, freshly dug truffles and bellies full of tasty local produce.

The following day they visited Vasto, and guided by professional guide Kharen, they were delighted to discover the secrets of this beautiful city. Titian paintings, unassuming on the walls of a church, a thorn said to be from the crown of Jesus, an old bakery down a backstreet filled with pastries and freshly baked focaccia, the oldest in the city dating back many centuries and buzzing bars everywhere.

Afterwards they hopped back on the bus and after a short panoramic drive, they spent the next few hours overlooking the clear blue waters of the iconic Trabocchi coast, feasting on a never-ending fish lunch.

So now do you see how easy it can be to make your dreams a reality?
