Tour Program

DAY 1

Pick up from Rome FCO or Pescara Airport and transfer to the picturesque medieval town of Atessa in Abruzzo, 

  • Check in your accommodation
  • Meet with your tour Leader to learn more about your Italian Language & Cultural Holiday Experience
  • Stroll through Atessa's historic centre to familiarise with your new surroundings
  • 19.30pm Benvenuto in Abruzzo dinner in a local restaurant
 

DAY 2

After breakfast we will discover the independent shops in Atessa and following the shopping list you will order the necessary ingredients for todays "Cucina in Italiano Experience" with lunch. In the afternoon time to relax or discover more of Atessa. In the evening we will enjoy an aperitivo in the main Piazza and reprise all the new Italian words and phrases learned earlier today.

  • 19.00pm Aperitivo in the main Piazza in Atessa
 

DAY 3

After breakfast we will drive to the picturesque town of Tornareccio, renowned for the production of some of the best honey in Italy. This tradition started in the mid 18th century and was a way for locals to just survive, it steadily became their profession now exported all over the world. Tornareccio is also famous for its amazing Mosaic Open-Air Museum. A permanent exhibition of over hundred beautfiul unique mosaics, displayed on the walls of houses in the cobbled streets and piazzas of the town. We will continue our journey to Roccascalegna to visit its iconic castle enveloped in mystery and legend. We will also taste some of the local delicacies including the famous  "Pane Porchettato" and "Pizza Scima" accompanied by a glass of locally produced craft beer.
In the afternoon return to Atessa and in the evening Italian Speaking & Spaghetti Evening.

  • 10.30am Visit a local award winning honey producer with tasting
  • 11.45am Departure to Roccascalegna
  • 12.15pm visit the castle
  • 13.00pm Aperitivo
  • 14.00pm Return to Atessa
  • 19.30pm dinner in a local restaurant
 

DAY 4

Today we will drive to the beautiful Costa dei Trabocchi, a precious gem in the Abruzzo's Crown. This part of the coast is characterised by its iconic ancient fishing wooden huts dotted along this stretch of coast creating a truly unique coastal landscape. We will first visit the stunning 11th century abbey of San Giovanni in Venere built on the promontory from where breathtaking views over the whole coast can be admired. Our journey continues to the enchanting hamlet of San Vito Chietino, here we will enjoy a stroll through its historic centre up to the incredible "Belvedere" terrace. We will then head down to the Marina di San Vito to enjoy a typical "Fritto Misto" with a glass of wine and afterwards walk along the coastal path to discover the Trabocchi. Afterwards we will return to Atessa and in the evening practice simple Italian Story Reading whilst we wait for the bbq to be ready to cook our Arrosticini Abruzzese, the traditional succulent lamb sewers.

  • 09.15am Departure to San Giovanni in Venere Abbey
  • 10.45am Short drive to San Vito Chietino
  • 11.30am Drive to Marina di San Vito for the Fritto Misto and a gentle stroll along the coastal path
  • 14.30pm return to Atessa
  • 19.00pm Italian Story reading and Arrosticini Abruzzesi on the bbq
 

DAY 5

Today you will enjoy time at your disposal until late afternoon. There will be possibilities to organise trips to local market towns, guided tours, or cycling. In the afternoon we will meet with local artist Amalia who will teach us a simple art/craft workshop, another chance to practice Italian conversation and learning a different skil. In the evening a traditional Pizza and Beer evening.

DAY 6

After breakfast departure to Vasto, a charming hilltop town blending Roman ruins with Renaissance elegance. A unique shining gem also known as the "Athens of Abruzzo". We will explore the 15th century Castello Caldoresco (externally as it is privatly owned), the 13th century Cathedral of San Giuseppe, the Roman baths, and the Palazzo D'Avalos with its lush Neapolitan Gardens. We will walk the Loggia Amblingh, a panoramic balcony with stunning views overlooking the Golden Bay. After the stroll we will enjoy an aperitivo in the main Piazza. In the afternoon return to Atessa and rest of the afternoon at your disposal. Early evening a fun test to assess your Italian Language and Comprehension improvements. A Good Bye Abruzzo dinner will conclude the evening

  • 09.30am Stroll through the historic centre
  • 10.45am Free time to enjoy shopping in Vasto
  • 12.30pm Meet in the main piazza to enjoy an aperitivo
  • !4.00pm Return to Atessa
  • 18.00pm Easy fun Test
  • 19.30pm Good Bye Abruzzo dinner in a local restaurant
 

DAY 7

Good Bye Abruzzo.

  • Check out and departure to the airport in time to check in for your homebound flight

Practical advices

Spring to Autumn trip we recommend you bring factor 30+ sun protection, sun hat, mosquito repellent, beach wear, light jumper/sweater, water proof.
Late Autumn and Winter sensible warm clothing, comfortable walking/trainer shoes necessary for some activities are advisable.
