Tour Program

DAY 1

Arrival at Pescara Airport and meet with your assistant. Transfer by private bus to your accommodation located in the province of Chieti which accounts for 77% of Abruzzo’s vineyards. Stay in a beautiful wine resort surrounded by unspoilt nature in the beating heart of the production. After the check in, your Tour Assistant will introduce the itinerary and present the guest with a Passucci Travel Welcome pack & gift accompanied by a drink. In the early evening you will enjoy special tasting of 4 wines from the Masciarelli Special Cellars accompanied by local delicacies and a traditional Abruzzese pasta dish.

 

DAY 2

After Breakfast, at 9.30am depart to the beautiful city of Chieti whose origins date back to pre-roman times. Meet with the local expert guide who will accompany you to discover the secrets of Chieti. Starting from the Cathedral of Saint Giustino built at the beginning of the 12th century, and continuing along the main high street Corso Marrucino, and Largo Gian Battista Vico lined with elegant palaces demonstrating Chieti’s aristocratic past. You will also visit the Abruzzo National Archaeological Museum” hosting one of the richest collections of archaeological findings, amongst which the most iconic image that represents Abruzzo, “The Capestrano Warrior”. After the visit you will head towards the rolling hills of Alanno to visit Poderi Castorani, a premier stop for any wine connoisseur. A blend of historical soul and modern excellence, Podere Castorani Estate dates back to 1793, but it gained international renown in the late 1990s when it was revitalized by a group of partners including former F1 driver and winner of one Monaco Grand Prix Jarno Trulli. Accompanied by the manager of the winery you will visit the vineyards, part of the Estate, the cellars and enjoy lunch tasting 5 flagship Poderi Castorani wines. Mid afternoon return to your accommodation and rest of the afternoon and evening at your own leisure. Depending on the time you visit, you may be able to enjoy the swimming pool in the beautiful garden with views. 

 

DAY 3

Breakfast; Today’s trip takes you through the heart of the Chieti hills, blending world-class winemaking with the legendary sports history of the region. 
10.00am departure to Villamagna along a short but scenic route offering stunning views of the Apennine peaks and the Adriatic Coast. Villamagna is the smallest DOC area known for producing some of Italy’s most concentrated Montepulciano wines. You will enjoy a morning aperitivo in the Torre Zambra tasting room overlooking vines that have been cultivated by the same family since 1910.
At 12.00pm you will head towards Ripa Teatina, the ancestral home of the Boxing Legend Rocky Marciano. The bronze statue of the Great Boxing Champion represents a powerful spot to take a photo. At 1.00pm arrival at Tenuta di Sipio, a masterpiece of modern architecture integrated into the landscape. Here you will enjoy a guided tour of the cellar followed by a long, relaxed visit and tasting. Di Sipio is particularly famous for its Metodo Classico Sparkling Wines and its sophisticated interpretation of local varietals. It’s the perfect setting for a light lunch paired with their premium labels. Late afternoon, return to your accommodation and the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. Dinner at the hotel restaurant (Wine Not Included).

 

DAY 4

Breakfast. After checking out (about 10.00am) departure towards the Costa dei Trabocchi to Azienda Tilli in Casoli, where you will stop for a guided visit with tasting. This drive it is considered a quintessentially Abruzzese journey, taking you from the high hills overlooking the Adriatic into the dramatic foothills of the Majella Mountains.
Located in the heart of Abruzzo, Cantine Tilli is a hidden gem for connoisseurs seeking authentic, family-driven expression of Italian viticulture. Azienda Tilli is an organic estate that bridges the gap between ancient tradition and modern precision. The Winery focuses on elevating native varietals, specifically Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, Trebbiano D’Abruzzo, and the increasingly prestigious Pecorino. Accompanied by Sara Tilli you will visit the cellars and production area, followed by the tasting of 4 wines paired with delicious local produce. The tasting will take place in the beautiful tasting room with absolutely spectacular views over the Majella National Park Mountains.
After the tasting your journey will continue towards your next accommodation on the Costa dei Trabocchi, where you will stay for the next 4 nights. After the check in, the rest of the day will be at your own leisure. At 7.30pm dinner at the hotel restaurant. (Wine not included)

 

DAY 5

After breakfast at 9.30am departure to the medieval hamlet of Crecchio, officially recognized as one of the “Borghi piú belli d’Italia” (Italy’s most beautiful ancient villages). It is dominated by the Castello Ducale De Riseis, a 12th century fortress with a fascinating history. Accompanied by the local expert historian you will have a wander through the beautifully preserved historic centre, with its narrow, flower-lined stone alleys leading to the majestic fortress. After a 5-minute drive you will reach Borgo Baccile, a meticulously restored 18th century hamlet turned luxury wine resort just a stone throw from Crecchio.  In this “Eco-Chic” oasis the Fantini Group preserves the rural soul of the Abruzzo Region while offering a sophisticated retreat set amidst rolling vineyards. Accompanied by one of the Fantini Family members you will visit the vineyards, the wine production area and enjoy the tasting either in the historic cellar or on the terrace. Through a guided vertical tasting you will enjoy their well-structured Montepulciano D’Abruzzo and the crisp, mineral-forward whites such as the Pecorino and the Trebbiano, accompanied by “zero-kilometre” local delicacies. After the tasting you will head back towards the coast and stop at Marina di San Vito for a light stroll along the Via Verde. This pedestrian and cycle path is built on the former Adriatica Railway Line, suspended between cliffs and the turquoise clear waters. Here you will have a front-row views of the “Trabocchi”, the ancient wooden fishing machines that look like giant spiders standing over the waves. The grand Finale of your day will be at “Bar Dora” (Copa de Dora), a local institution since 1940. This is not just an ice-cream shop, it‘s a landmark. Order their legendary artisanal gelato and enjoy it as the sun begins to set over the Adriatic. Return to your accommodation and the rest of the day at your own leisure.

 

DAY 6

Breakfast and at 9.30am short transfer to the beautiful historic city of Lanciano, renowned for the Sanctuary of the 1st Eucharistic Miracle. You will have a nice stroll through the Medieval District of Civitanova, the Piazza Plebiscito with the majestic Basilica della Madonna del Ponte built on top of the Diocletian Roman Bridge. There will be time to stop for a nice cappuccino in the historic Caffé dei Portici accompanied by the Bocconotto Lancianese, a typical local delicious sweet pastry. The journey will continue towards nearby Cantina Frentana to experience the Inland Terroir. Located just on the outskirts of Lanciano, this winery is home to the “Torre Vinaria” (Wine Tower). It offers a stunning viewpoint and a deep dive into the Montepulciano D’Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG. You will explore their historic aging cellar and enjoy a guided tasting paired with local “Ventricina” (spicy salami), and Pecorino di Farindola cheese. After the visit your journey will continue with a short drive towards the San Giovanni in Venere Abbey. Perched on a hill overlooking the Costa dei Trabocchi, this 12th century Cistercian Abbey is one of Abruzzo’s most beautiful monuments. We recommend you take a stroll to the Belvedere, with views from the promontory, and stretching across the olive groves down to the turquoise sea and the spindly Trabocchi. Finally, before heading back to your accommodation you will visit the “Cantine Olivastri”, a family-run estate that captures the “saltiness” of the sea. To fully appreciate and understand how the proximity to the Adriatic cliffs influences the mineral profile of the wines, you will taste their “Single-Vineyard” labels focusing on their Pecorino and the rosé Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo. Return to your accommodation and the rest of the day at your own leisure. In the evening at 7.30pm dinner at the hotel restaurant. (Wine not included)

 

DAY 7

Breakfast: at 9.30 departure to the picturesque coastal city of Vasto perched on a hill overlooking the “Golfo D’Oro” (Golden Gulf). The city is famous for its Roman heritage, medieval architecture, and breathtaking sea views. Accompanied by our local expert historian you will visit some of the most important sites of interests such as the Romanic style Cathedral of San Giuseppe, The Neapolitans Gardens of Palazzo D’Avalos and more. The tour will conclude along the splendid, panoramic “Loggia Amblingh” which deserves a special mention, a balcony nestled between the streets of the historic centre and the crystalline waters of the Golfo D’Oro.  You will have time for a free stroll and to enjoy a drink in one of the bars overlooking the Castello Caldoresco or the Palazzo D’Avalos. A short distance from the city of Vasto you will arrive at the Boutique Estate of “Fontefico”, that focuses on single-vineyard wines, ensuring each bottle reflects a specific plot of land. With stunning views over the Costa dei Trabocchi, Fontefico Estate have been producing high-end wine destined to a real wine connoisseur enthusiast. Each wine features a unique hand-drawn label that changes with every vintage to tell the story of that year’s harvest. During the tasting you will be able to explore and understand how different soils and sea breezes affect the grape varieties. Accompanied by the estate manager you will visit the vineyards, wine production area, and the cellars, and afterwards enjoy a fantastic wine tasting paired with local delicacies and a typical pasta dish. In the afternoon before heading back to your accommodation you will stop to Punta Aderci, the protected Nature Reserve, another symbol of Abruzzo’s Unique Unspoilt Territory. The rest of the afternoon is at your own leisure and in the evening at 7.30pm the good bye dinner to end in style this incredible Abruzzo Wine Journey.

Spring to Autmn trip we recommend you bring factor 30+ sun protection, sun hat, mosquito repellent, beach wear, light jumper/sweater, water proof. Late Autumn and Winter sensible warm clothing, comfortable walking/trainer shoes necessary for some activities are advisable.
