Tour Program

DAY 1

Pick up at rome Fiumicino Airport or Pescara Airport and private transfer to your accommodation in Ortona. Check in and meet your Tour Leader for an introductory walk to familiarise you with your new surroundings. Visit the "Enoteca Regionale D'Abruzzo" for your initiation to the wines of the region. You will enjoy a guided tasting of 3 wines with light snacks. In the evening dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 2

After breakfast private transfer to discover the wines of the smallest DOC area in Abruzzo, "The Villamagna DOC". Visit two bespoke cantinas, taste some of their best wines, and enjoy an informal lunch in the "Torre Zambra Wine bar". In the afternoon you will stop in Tollo to visit an historic winery recognised as one of the best producers of wines in Abruzzo, "Cantina Tollo". Visit the cellar, learn its history and taste a selection of three of their most representative wines. Return to Ortona and the rest of the day and evening will be at your own leisure.

DAY 3

After breakfast, private transfer for a journey along the "Ortona Wine Road". Visit two different cantinas embodying two excellencies of wine production in Abruzzo. First visit to "Dora Sarchese Winery", the cellars, aging room, the production facilities and finally a guided tasting of three of their best wines. Conitnue your wine journey to "Cantine Cerretano", certified organic producer and fantastic family run winery. Discover their best "Riserva" accompanied by a selection of light snacks. In the afternoon you will head to the picturesque town of Guardiagrele for an anble through its cobbled streets. To wrap up the day in perfect style you will visit "Castello di Semivicoli" owned by the Masciarelli Family, without any doubt producers of world class Abruzzo wines. You will enjoy a guided tasting in a breathtaking setting and savour 4 of their most emblematic labels with a selection of local produce. Return to Ortona and rest of the evening and dinner at your own leisure.

DAY 4

After breakfast you will enjoy the morning at your own leisure to relax or discover more of Ortona. In the afternoon private transfer to visit the city of Lanciano and walk through its elegant medieval quarter. Your journey will continue to visit "Tenuta Legonziano" a cantina who specialises in the production of sparkling wines, using both the "Charmat" (Prosecco) and Classic (Champagne) Method. You will visit the cellars, understand the difference between the two methods, followed by a guyided tasting that will change your perception of Abruzzo's sparkling wines. Late afternoon return to Ortona and dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 5

After breakfast, private transfer to discover the wines from the Majella production area. The close vicinity of the Majestic Majella Mountains together with the influence of the nearby sea give the wines produced here a distinctive characterstic which you will be able to appreciate during the guided tasting. At the frst cantina you will meet Sara and her brother Pier Carmine at "Tilli Winery". You will visit the cellar, aging room, and enjoy a guided tasting in the tasting room with spectacular views over the Majella Mountains. Lunch in a traditional family restaurant and in the afternoon visit "Cantine Spinelli" whose wines are exported all over the world. Return to Ortona and rest of the day and evening at your own leisure.

DAY 6

After breakfast, private transfer along the stunning "Costa dei Trabocchi", one of the symbols of Abruzzo. The most striking characteristic of the wines produced along the coast is their disctinctive sapidity and minerality, since the vineyards give the illusion of reaching far into the sea such is its proximity. Your first visit will be at the family run "Cantina Priori" where young Ettore is gradually taking over the reigns of the wine business from his father. You will taste their wines accompanied by a light snack. Short transfer to visit the amazing "Fontefico Winery" with breathtaking views over the coast and the mountains. Visit the cellars, aging room, and production area, followed by a guided tasting of 3 of their best wines accompanied by local products. Return to Ortona and in the evening enjoy a "Good Bye Abruzzo Dinner".

Practical advices

Spring to Autmn trip we recommend you bring factor 30+ sun protection, sun hat, mosquito repellent, beach wear, light jumper/sweater, water proof. Late Autumn and Winter sensible warm clothing, comfortable walking/trainer shoes necessary for some activities are advisable.
