Tour Program
DAY 1
Arrival at Pescara Airport, meet with your tour assistant and transfer to the 4* Hotel Miramare Village in Torino di Sangro, overlooking the beautiful "Costa dei Trabocchi". After the check in, your tour assistant will explain the itinerary as well as gifting the participants with a welcome pack. You will have time to relax and enjoy the swimming pool, and at 8pm dinner with wine at the hotel restaurant.
DAY 2
Breakfast; at 9.30am departure to the amazing castle of Roccascalegna, one of the most iconic images linked to the Region of Abruzzo. Built on a rock spur in the 12th century, Roccascalegna is enveloped in history and legends surrounding the noble families that controlled the fortress. After the visit to the castle, stroll through the cobbled street of the original hamlet and a possibility to stop for a quick espresso. Departure to the picturesque medieval town of Atessa where lunch based on the local typical cuisine will be served at the historic restaurant "Al Duca". Atessa is rich in history, with intriguing legends which you will learn about .There will also be a visit to the Piretti shop to taste their typical liqueur which is still made according to the original ancient recipe. In the afternoon return to the Hotel Miramare; rest of the day and evening at your disposal.
DAY 3
Breakfast; The morning will be free for you to enjoy the swimming pool or sunbathe on the stunning quiet beaches just a stone's throw from the hotel or just a few minutes away with the free shuttle bus available to the guests. At the Hotel Miramare there is a fantastic bike rental service available for guests to enjoy the Costa dei Trabocchi on two wheels. There will be a possibility to join your tour assistant and explore the little secret beaches and alcoves with fine sand and pebbles where you can sunbathe and swim in crystal-clear blue waters . The Trabocchi are the ancient wooden fishing huts dotted along the coast that create a unique and incredible coastal landscape. Along the same stretch bars offer delicious gelato, aperitivi or typical street food. At 3.30pm departure towards the stunning Majella National Park that since 2021 has been part of the UNESCO World Geopark Heritage. Here you will discover the little ancient hamlet of Fara San Martino sat deep in the foothills of the Majella mountain. The town is renonwed for its spectacular gorges (Golle di San Martino), the green springs (Sorgenti del Verde), but mainly Fara San Martino is known as "The City of Pasta", as 4 of the best pasta factories in the world have been producing pasta here for over 100 years. Return to the Hotel Miramare and at 8pm dinner with wine at the hotel restaurant.
DAY 4
Breakfast; Today you will have the day free at your disposal to enjoy the swimming pool, relax with a good book on your veranda or sunbathe on the beaches of the Costa dei Trabocchi. In the evening at 8pm dinner with wine at the hotel restaurant.
DAY 5
Breakfast; at 9.30 departure to the beautiful medieval city of Lanciano where accompanied by our expert guide you will discover and visit its most important historic sites. From the Basilica of the Madonna del Ponte, with its amazing 15th and 16th centuries frescoes and paintings, the Roman bridge of Diocletian, The Church of San Francis and the first Eucharistic Miracle, the Jewish ghetto and more. After the tour, free time to wander the high street in the city centre with its shops and bars where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or gelato At 13.00pm departure to the near by picturesque San Vito Marina for a typical local street food lunch with a glass of wine or beer. You can enjoy a stroll along the promenade and the pier with its iconic Trabocchi transformed into characteristic fish restaurants, whilst indulging in a delicious artisan gelato. Before heading back to the hotel we will take a must see stop at the magnificent 11th century San Giovanni in Venere Abbey that sits on the promontory from where it dominates the whole coast with breathtaking views from Ortona to Vasto. Return to the hotel and rest of the afternoon free, and at 8pm dinner with wine at the hotel restaurant.
DAY 6
Breakfast; at 9.30am departure to the picturesque town of Orsogna to visit the agriturismo "Le Mignole" where Marilena and Simona will guide and teach you all there is to know about Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Through the tasting Marilena will demonstrate and teach you how to recognise the most important characteristics and perfumes that a genuine good Extra Virgin Olive oil should have, and be able to spot at the same time the defects in a low grade olive oil. Together with Simona you will participate in a workshop preparing some traditional Abruzzese bread and pastry followed by a typical lunch. After lunch a short transfer to the 14th century Franciscan Monastery of the Santissima Annunziata to meet Father Damiano who will tell the story of the convent and show its beautiful 15th and 16th frescoes in the refectory. Return to the hotel Miramare and rest of the afternoon and evening free for you to enjoy and relax by the pool.
DAY 7
Breakfast; at 9.30am departure to the picturesque medieval city of Vasto. Today is the local buzzy weekly market with its stalls to find that last minute holiday bargain. There is plenty to see and discover in Vasto's historic city centre, from the Roman Catholic Cathedral of San Giuseppe, the Palazzo D'Avalos and its "Neapolitan Garden", the Caldoresco Castle and the splendid panoramic "Passeggiata Amblingh", all these beautiful sites will leave you with a strong feeling of wanting to come back for more. Return to the hotel Miramare and at 5.00pm a fun Abruzzo cooking workshop to learn how to prepare one of the most traditional dishes of the Abruzzo Cuisine, the "Spaghetti alla Chitarra". At 8.00pm good bye dinner with wine sharing the great memories and highlights of your holiday in Abruzzo.
DAY 8
Breakfast; check out and transfer to Pescara Airport and /or Train Station and departure to your home destination.
