From the Rifugio Pomilio at 1,890mt a.s.l., we will walk surrounded by breathtaking far-reaching views, from the Adriatic Coast over the highest peaks of the Majella Massif, to the Majestic Gran Sasso, and beyond. We will enjoy the spectacular scenery of the "Sunset" on the Mountains of the Majella National Park, a unique experience well worth the effort.

Tour Program

DAY 1

Accompanied by our expert AIGAE Certified guide Vincenza, step by step, we will discover the incredible uncontaminated habitat characteristic to these high altitude mountain slopes. The presence of many endemic species of plants and wild flowers here also means that the environment can sustain the varied wildlife typical of this area. Vincenza will tell us about a particular plant from the ice age that saved the National Park from uncontrolled real estate speculation. The walk develops 90% on a paved path and only the last 100mt are on a well trodden mountain track. We will reach the Madonnina del Blockhaus at 2,020mt a.s.l. where the evocative statue of the Virgin Mary is located in a little chapel. Here you will have the opportunity to take amazing photos of the incredible views as well as capturing the moments we have all been waiting for, the sunset. Slowly we will head back to our cars and then a short 5 minutes drive to the Mamma Rosa Restaurant where our delicious Aperitivo awaits us.

Practical advices

RECOMMENDED: Binocular, 30+ factor sun protection, sun hat, trekking shoes/boots, light wind proof jacket, layered cloting advised, at least 1L of water in the hot summer season
