Tour Program

DAY 1

Accompanied by our AIGAE certified guide we will walk along an easy, simple, and striking footpath that will take us from Lake Racollo to the Grancia of Santa Maria del Monte. We'll walk amongst vast grazing pastures, the ancient "Tratturi", and open panoramic views over the peaks of the Gran Sasso Mountains. Along the journey we will most likely encounter flocks of sheep, wild horses, and discover the rich flora typical of the these high mountain habitat. We will arrive at the Grancia di Santa Maria del Monte, an ancient rural complex that belonged to the Abbey of Santa Maria di Collemaggio, used for centuries as a centre for managing all the farming activities. An immersive experience into nature and the history of sheep farming in Abruzzo

Rcommended: 

Binocular, 30+ factor sun protection, sun hat, trekking shoes/boots, light wind proof jacket, layered cloting advised, at least 1L of water in the hot summer season
